SBU Freethinkers
A collaborative project with Moiz Khan for a student organization. It is a large website that I designed to be easily scalable as the organization continues to grow. The website will be easy to maintain after I move on with the Dreamweaver templates I use to expand and maintain the site.
I am the secretary and webmaster for the organization, and part of my duty is to maintain attendance records. We have a large group, so I developed an attendance system to keep attendance records in a MySQL database. That system allows the secretary to quickly enter attendance records with an Ajax auto-fill field, and allows members to check their member status with a secure quick-lookup tool.
REK Racing
A hosting client asked for a new website with a dark design and "fast" appearance to appeal to his fans. He also needed to feature his sponsors. I designed his logo and layout with those requirements in mind, and I featured his primary sponsor IHOP with the blue color scheme, and the background.
I developed a php backed to update news stories, scores, events and standings. My client also wanted a photo gallery that would be easy to upload new pictures to on a regular basis.
My client has new sponsors each year, and has requested a simple website for 2009 which.
Middle Island Civic Association
I volunteered to create and host the local civic association's first website. The purpose is to attract new members and keep the minutes online. I also took photos of the local area and created a photo gallery.
We originally hoped that members would interact online with a phpBB forum. I used a solution that I developed for a previous project to stop bots from registering by "hiding" the registration link.
In Progress
THiNK Magazine
I choose to use Drupal CMS to develop and maintain this new magazine's website. It has become an enormous project to create an attractive structure while maintaining the abstract concepts of a Content Management System. Using CMS for a magazine presents a few unique challenges behind the scenes, such as separating issues, and mimicking the power structure of a publication. Drupal has an incredible community, and a vast number of past examples to learn from.
Solar Boat Team
A website for a competitive engineering team. The team competes in a national competition against other universities. The goal of the website is to attract new members and showcase sponsors. We want to show off our work, but we also need to hide certain things from other universities. I developed a secure gallery that only allows students to view certain albums while on the campus network. These albums are invisible off campus. This website also includes a currently unused phpBB forum.
Past Projects
Long Island CASE Handyman and Remodeling
This website was an extension of a corporate website for a local franchise. Case's corporate website provided a CMS system to customize their website for a franchise, but it was lacking in features and the web address was too long for potential clients to remember. I purchases licase.com for them and mirrored the corporate website. I also added a blog in order to help with organic traffic, and to give the CEO a voice on the internet. Unfortunately the business started in a bad economy, and recently ceased operations, so the website has closed.
They used a company to create an opt-in mailing list, but they wanted me to develop a landing page for the newsletter. The goal was to gather potential lead data. I created a front-end that grabbed the visitor's attention to the contact form, with a php back-end to customize the landing page for each newsletter. Each step of a potential client was logged in a MySQL database, we knew when they opened the email, and how long far they went before deciding to contact us, or leave.
Longwood Robotics
This website was built for a contest within FIRST High School Robotics. I created a very flashy website to demand attention. Functionally, the website was simple. It just has some team information, a gallery and a heavily used forum. I also used the technique I developed to stop bots from registering, along with a way to make sure that only team members could register and it has been extremely effective in keeping the vital forum free of spam.
Flash Portfolio
I keep a slightly older portfolio in flash on my freelance design website.
